Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating a man’s death after he was shot multiple times by a Toronto officer at Danforth GO station early Saturday morning.

Officers responded to reports of a person with a gun at the station, in the area of Main Street and Stephenson Avenue , just after 1 a.m., police said in a post on social media.

At the station, officers found a man in the stairwell leading up to platform No. 3, Special Investigations Unit spokesperson Monica Hudon told reporters at the scene later in the morning.

“One officer fired his gun at the man multiple times,” she said. “The man was struck multiple times.”

The man had life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital where he died. A firearm was recovered at the scene, Hudon added.
