PHOENIX — The Dragon Bravo Fire, burning in the Grand Canyon's North Rim, has now burned 134,049 acres and has jumped to 29% containment.
Growth on the fire has slowed from the huge numbers seen earlier in the week and late last month, with only around 2,000 new acres burned overnight.
"On the Walhalla Plateau, firefighters and heavy equipment operators worked to build a line against the slowly progressing fire in that area. At the north end of the fire, some interior pockets of unburned fuel threw up smoke, but the line held," fire officials reported.
The fire saw a massive increase from 55,000 acres reported on July 28, up to around 71,000 acres by the following day. The fire continues to push north "amid extreme fire behavior," officials said.
