A man was fatally shot when he opened fire on police officers during a standoff at a home in Fall River, Massachusetts, early Tuesday morning, officials said.

The standoff began with a report of an armed man in a mental health crisis, according to the Bristol Count District Attorney's Office and Fall River police.

Domonick Knight, 38, died after being wounded in the shootout at the Langley Street home, prosecutors said. State police are investigating what happened.
