BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —
Communities across Central Alabama celebrated National Night Out on Tuesday. Neighbors in Birmingham’s Titusville neighborhood enjoyed music and free food and ice cream in the Green Liberty Baptist Church parking lot. Most importantly, though, neighbors met each other and the officers who protect and serve their community.
Virgil Studdard, Jr. said he’s lived in the neighborhood for nearly 79 years. He also worked for the city of Birmingham for nearly 26 and knew most of the police force before he retired, but times have changed since then.
“It really gives you the chance to really meet the police officers,” he said. “I don’t know these younger people. The ones I know retired. I’ve met some of them, but I don’t know the police like I used to.”
