CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A second suspect was arrested in connection with a deadly shooting at an east Charlotte nightclub in April, police said.

Noel Alexander Vasquez Mercado, 20, is charged with first-degree murder related to the killing of Javier Lee Martinez Hernandez on April 13. Hernandez was found dead from multiple gunshots outside the Mi Cabana bar on Eastway Drive.

According to the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Commission, police were called to Mi Cabana 28 times since July 2023. The club's liquor licenses were revoked following April's homicide. The commission said Kim To, the bar manager, got patrons to leave after Hernandez was shot several times. She reportedly did so by turning off the lights.
