OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The Omaha Police Department Traffic Unit issued more than 500 citations during eight enforcement operations during the month of July.
The operations were conducted throughout the city and were done to raise awareness to the public that exceeding the speed limit or driving too fast for conditions is one of the most “prevalent factors contributing to traffic crashes,” per the report.
In total, 538 citations were made, including:
Speeding 352
Seatbelt 21
Registration/Insurance 110
Driver’s License Violations (Suspension/No License) 30
Driving Under the Influence (DUI) 1
Warrants Cleared 2
Street Racing 1
Police said in 15 out of 59 fatal crashes investigated by the department’s accident squad in 2024, speed was the primary factor as the cause of the crash.
