NORTH BRANFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - Mosquitos in North Branford have tested positive for West Nile Virus.

According to the East Shore District Health Department, the mosquitos were collected on July 30th at the Cedar Lake area of North Branford.

“The species of mosquito carrying West Nile Virus can be found in a wide variety of places, such as old tires, stagnant pools of ground water, artificial containers, or catch basins,” they said.

No humans have been infected with West Nile Virus this summer in Connecticut.

However, there has been an increase in human cases in Connecticut over the last several years. 13 people were infected with the virus in 2024.

The East Shore District Health Department provided multiple tips to avoid mosquito bites.
