CHESHIRE, Conn. (WFSB) - Health officials said West Nile Virus was detected in a mosquito in Cheshire on Monday.

A mosquito that was collected at Lock 12 has tested positive for West Nile virus, officials said.

The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES) has notified The Chesprocott Health District (CHD).

Health officials said this is the first detection of West Nile virus in town.

In a press release sent to Eyewitness News Acting Director of Chesprocott Health District Hilary Norcia said:
