KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - It’s become a game of sorts- “What’s the oldest temp tag you’ve seen?” Soon, however, this question will be a thing of the past.

Senate Bill 28 recently passed in Missouri. It calls for changes to several transportation provisions, including temporary license plates, or temp tags.

More specifically, it gets rid of them.

What does this mean?

Once the law takes effect, anyone buying a car from a dealer will no longer have 30 days to go and pay their sales tax. Instead, they will be required to pay for the car and the sales tax at the same time; no different than buying an item at the store.

This doesn’t apply to private dealers. Buying a car from Craigslist, a friend or any other private party still requires a trip to a Missouri license office.
