An Omaha non-profit is helping people feel comfortable in their new homes after they're forced to leave their old ones behind. Their efforts have caught the attention of the mayor.
When City View residents were forced to relocate, they were unable to bring furniture with them. That's when The Furniture Project stepped in—partnering with other community groups to help. Last week, the last remaining residents at City View were relocated, unable to bring their furniture with them due to infestation. The Furniture Project is helping those families by giving them free items.
"The guys from North Omaha Community Partnership and other organizations, who have been coming here and picking up sometimes five or six different families' worth of furniture," said Drew Gerken, founder of
