CLEVELAND — Cleveland is playing host to thousands of media professionals this week for the National Association of Black Journalists Convention, and while the focus is on journalism, the event is also giving the area economy a major boost.

More than 3,000 journalists, students, and industry leaders are gathering at the Huntington Convention Center and surrounding venues through Sunday.

"This is a big week in Cleveland," said Emily Lauer, vice president of public relations at Destination Cleveland. "They are staying in our hotel rooms, they are eating in our restaurants. There are parties and receptions taking place at restaurants and different venues throughout town."

Lauer said the NABJ Convention is one of the largest conferences the city has hosted this year.
