OMAHA, Neb. —
The back-to-school season is upon us and that means more school busses on the roads again.
When you see school busses, keep these things in mind:
If a bus has its yellow flashing lights on that means it's going to stop, and drivers should slow down.
If the stop sign arm is extended and red lights are flashing, that means people are actively getting on and off the bus.
It is illegal to pass a school bus while the stop sign arm is extended; that's a law in every state.
Keep in mind school zones have lower speed limits, typically around 20-25 MPH. Keep an eye out for posted speed limit signs when driving near a school.
In Nebraska, if drivers do not adhere to speed limits in school zones, fines are doubled.
