Chief Deputy City Attorney Tony Baker, who served as the highest ranking in the city’s legal department below the city attorney, left the city late last month.

In response to an inquiry regarding his status with the city, the Greensboro People and Culture Department said in a statement that “Tony Baker resigned employment from the city effective July 24, 2025.” He had worked for the city for nearly five years.

When asked about his reason for leaving the city, Baker said on Thursday that he was “just looking forward.”

“I appreciate Greensboro, but I am looking forward to my next opportunity,” Baker said.

Before going to Greensboro, Baker was a longtime assistant city attorney in Winston-Salem.
