ATHENS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Athens police are responding to a reported shooting near the Ohio University campus Thursday afternoon.

Police said a female was reportedly injured as a result of the incident, which took place on the unit block of West Union Street. The victim was taken to a local hospital, but her condition has not been released.

According to a post on the Athens police social media, a male suspect is currently holding up inside his apartment, with officers attempting to talk him out.

As of approximately 5:20 p.m., police posted to social media that the "threat is contained" but urged the public to steer clear of the area for the time being.

There is no word on what led to the shooting.
