LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The last Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) student has been dropped off after a nearly perfect first day of school.

In an interview Thursday afternoon, JCPS Board of Education Chairman Corrie Shull said buses were running "very close" to on-time.

"We've had the best opening day for the first day of school that we've had in quite some time," Shull said during WHAS11's 5 p.m. newscast. "We're excited things are running smoothly."

JCPS spokesperson Carolyn Callahan said the final student got back home at 6:29 p.m. That's a half hour sooner than last year.

By 6 p.m., she said there were still 13 buses on the road, carrying 47 total students. At 6:23 p.m., only one bus was still on the road.
