OMAHA, Neb. —
Ninety percent of South Omaha businesses reportedly closed on the day of the ICE raid at Glenn Valley Foods . This statistic is drawn from a survey conducted by the Nebraska Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Over two months later, businesses in the area are still struggling to recover.
Douglas County Commissioner Roger Garcia described South Omaha's once-bustling business district.
“If you would go any day Monday through Sunday, really, it’d be hard to find parking,” Garcia said.
He recalled the lively environment filled with families enjoying local vendors on the weekends.
Since the June 10 raid, however, the atmosphere has changed.
“That kind of vibrancy has died down, a decent amount,” Garcia said.
