DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Homecoming is a time to simplify one's college experience with a football game, a special halftime show with the school band and reuniting with classmates.

Officials with the North Carolina Central University hope to keep things as simple with policy changes on the way after multiple violent incidents last year, including 2 shootings on campus grounds.

"We seek to balance the tradition of gathering with friends and family who travel from around the world for a weekend of fellowship and fun with our shared commitment to ‘Protect the Nest,’" NCCU officials said in a statement to CBS 17. "NCCU will continue to honor the traditions of The Ultimate Homecoming Experience with some changes to access and duration."
