SARASOTA, Fla. ( WWSB ) - Residents of Bradenton Beach will soon have a way to get near instantaneous alerts about any emergency situation, including hurricanes and other severe weather, with a new text message information system.

Perhaps the most important feature about this new system? They won’t over-notify you, the city promises

ChrisAnn Allen, the clerk and public information specialist for the Bradenton Beach Police Department says it’s a huge development.

“We learned this with the hurricanes last year how important it is and it’s also just great because it’s also streamlined, so it’s only going to be the critical information that they would need to receive,“ she said.

The new text alert system becomes active on Tuesday, Aug. 12. To sign up, text BRADENTONBEACH to 91896.
