MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) – A man was shot while loading his groceries into his vehicle before it was stolen on Saturday in Northeast Ohio.

According to a press release from the Maple Heights Police Department, officers responded to the 5300 block of Warrensville Center Road around 1:40 p.m., where they found a 28-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Investigators found that the victim was shopping at Giant Eagle and was in the parking lot loading groceries into his vehicle when the suspect approached him. The two begin to “struggle with each other.”

“At that time, it appears the suspect shot the victim,” the release said.

The suspect then fled in the victim’s vehicle, the release said. The vehicle was found by officers shortly after.
