Camp Grier in Old Fort has been awarded a grant of almost half a million dollars to expand trail access and community connectivity across western North Carolina.

Camp Grier announced that it has been awarded a grant of $499,197 from the Great Trails State Program, part of the $11 million investment from the state of North Carolina, according to a news release from Camp Grier.

This grant will directly support new trail construction and trail improvements across the Grandfather Ranger District, including:

New trails near Mortimer Campground (3.6 miles) to create shorter loops connecting High Knob to Wilson Ridge, Schoolhouse Ridge and Yancy Ridge trails.

Filling the funding gap to complete the Marks Mountain trail build (3.3 miles), a link to the Mountains to Sea Trail.
