DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) - A woman is displaced from her home after her kitchen caught on fire early Monday morning, according to the Durham Fire Department.

DFD said they responded to Riverwalk Terrace in reference to a structure fire at approximately 1:40 a.m.

When fire crews arrived, they initially did not see a visible fire at the townhome, DFD said. Crews then walked around the townhome and determined there was a fire inside.

DFD said they were able to extinguish the fire quickly, stopping the fire from reaching any adjacent townhomes.

According to DFD, the occupant of the townhome says she was cooking when the fire began. DFD says she has family in the area and was not in need of Red Cross assistance.
