A Massachusetts man first arrested in 2018 for beating his dog with a basetball bat because he was angry that it had eaten his Burger King Whopper sandwich was convicted last month after a second trial.

Gregory Ostiguy, 57, of New Bedford, was conviced of animal cruelty on July 28 after a bench trial in New Bedford District Court and sentenced to serve one year in the House of Correction, the Bristol District Attorney's Office said.
