Public hearing happening Tuesday for proposed Omaha city budget

On Tuesday, there will be a public hearing over Mayor John Ewing Jr.’s first budget proposal and capital improvement program for Omaha.

The budget, introduced in July, includes increases for the fire and police departments. For Omaha firefighters, the mayor’s 2026 budget proposal includes a $4.2 million increase.

The mayor’s budget plan also keeps the tax levy flat while increasing the General Fund by 5.6%. The biggest chunk of that increase will come from investments in both equipment and personnel for OPD.

Ewing is also looking to address city parks, poverty, homelessness , affordable housing, and roads.
