GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WATE) — Smoke may be seen rising from vents in Gatlinburg this week as the city begins work to find any areas in need of repair in the sewer system.
Starting on August 13, contractors will begin smoke testing the city's sewer system, which helps find areas in need of further investigation and potential repairs. Work will take place Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., weather permitting.
As work gets underway, the city said subcontractor Smart Views, LLC, will hand out informational door hangers in affected neighborhoods. The testing will begin in the Ski Mountain area and expand to other areas as the project continues.
During the tests, smoke may be seen coming from building vent stacks and holes in the ground. However, it should not enter homes or buildi
