BENNINGTON, VT. (NEWS10) -- It was a scary moment for some patrons at a local Bennington Vermont pub after a customer who was refused service came back with a sword and tried to bust his way back in. Patrons stepped in to help as the bartender tried to keep her patrons safe.

“We didn’t have a plan, right? Like, how do you plan for something like that?” questioned Bennington Select Board Member Jackie Matts.

Another Bennington Select Board Member who was there, Tom Haley explained, “Everybody was kind of shocked and didn’t know what was going on. This isn’t something that happens here."

The Bennington Police Department said they were called out to Donovan’s Irish Pub during the pub's Tuesday night pool tournament for an intoxicated male who had left without paying his bill. They said 26-
