VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Some Virginia Beach residents are speaking out over a strong odor that they said has overwhelmed their neighborhood.

Residents living on Water Oak Road, near Mount Trashmore off of South Plaza Trail, said they're concerned about possible water contamination in their homes. They said they have asked the city to check conditions in Thalia Creek for several years.

13News Now visited the creek Tuesday afternoon. An odor compared to rotten eggs was evident, and residents said it appears some sort of gas bubbles up from the water every day.

"It's an odor so pungent, it takes your breath away," said John Kirby, who's lived in front of Thalia Creek for seven years. “You can’t live like this, this can’t be okay."
