DULUTH — The two DFL-endorsed candidates were top vote-getters in a citywide primary Tuesday.

Incumbent Terese Tomanek led a field of five candidates with 34.25% of the vote in the Duluth City Council at large race, trailed by Jordon Johnson with 26.48%.

Also advancing from the primary were former Councilor Derek Medved with 22.84% and local shop owner and artist Asher Estrin-Haire with 8.7%.

The four will face off for two seats in the Nov. 4 general election, representing the city as a whole. Another incumbent, Azrin Awal, did not seek another term.

The sole candidate eliminated Tuesday was veteran and entrepreneur Zach Moder, who garnered 7.74% of the vote.

Turnout was low, as typical for a summertime municipal primary, with just 9,321 votes counted in 34 precincts — about 16.7% of
