GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Law enforcement agencies across the state are cracking down on impaired driving for the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.

The campaign starts Friday and continues through Sept. 1. Along with the Michigan State Police, dozens of sheriff's offices and police departments are taking part. They will be looking for drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning says impaired driving is always dangerous, but crashes and fatalities tend to be especially high during late summer and the Labor Day holiday weekend. Over Labor Day weekends from 2019 to 2023, 44 drivers were killed in crashes in Michigan, according to the office.
