PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — As Portland remains below its pre-pandemic foot traffic levels, several organizations are trying to attract visitors and residents alike back to the central city.

During the first week of August, the Portland Bureau of Transportation joined Oregon Walks and Travel Portland in launching “Walk Portland.” Backed by a $150,000 grant from Travel Oregon, the pilot project has brought new signage and maps to downtown in an effort to encourage exploration.

The project offers a walking route that directs pedestrians to popular destinations throughout the city, like Powell’s City of Books and Pioneer Courthouse Square. The map also aims to attract people to places outside of the route, like the Midtown Beer Garden and Portland Art Museum.
