PORT ALLEN, La. (WAFB) - An undercover operation at a convenience store in Port Allen has led to West Baton Rouge Parish’s first Kratom-related arrest since the state’s new law went into effect.

According to the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested Md Saiful Islam, 41, of Baton Rouge, as a result of the investigation. He is facing charges for the distribution of Tianeptine and possession with intent to distribute kratom.

Officials said agents were investigating Bro’s Food Mart on North Alexander Avenue, targeting the possession and sale/distribution of illegal products containing Tianeptine and Kratom.
