SPRING HILL, Fla. (WFLA) — A teacher is facing a charge for driving under the influence after Hernando County deputies said he crashed his car in the school parking lot.

Deputies were called to Explorer K-8 in Spring Hill around 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12 after receiving reports of a single-vehicle crash involving a teacher at the school, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

A school resource deputy was the first on scene. Authorities said the deputy found Philip Scire, 32, unconscious behind the steering wheel with his vehicle still in gear.

Scire had crashed into a fence located in the rear parking lot of the school, according to officials. Several "empty single-serving alcohol containers" were also seen within his reach, deputies said.
