SEATTLE — A Ballard curiosity shop known for its eclectic collection of oddities became the target of thieves over the weekend with burglars making off with nearly $20,000 worth of unusual items including a woolly mammoth tooth and shark teeth.
Two hooded and masked figures broke into Ballyhoo Curiosity Shop on Ballard Avenue early Sunday morning, smashing display cases and scooping valuables into sacks before fleeing the scene.
Owner Ryan Robbins arrived to find several display cases shattered and emptied. The stolen merchandise included the shop's entire jewelry supply, along with prehistoric artifacts that set the store apart from typical retail targets.
"I think there's always like, a crime of convenience, but I do think that there's also like deliberateness in it," Robbins said.
