CARLISLE, Ky. (WKYT) - A mowing accident cut power to much of Carlisle on Thursday.

According to Kentucky Utilities, crews had been performing maintenance on the line that normally feeds the town when a mower struck a guy wire or pole, tripping a line to an East Kentucky Power substation.

East Kentucky Power was temporarily supplying electricity when the outage happened.

The city’s water plant was also knocked offline due to the outage, and officials have asked customers to conserve water.

Nicholas County Schools said all students are safe and classes are operating normally.

There is no estimate for when power will be restored.

This is a developing story.
