GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A driver is facing multiple charges after skipping out on a toll on the Mackinac Bridge and leading police on a high-speed chase, officials say.

It happened in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Police were sent to the bridge just before 2 a.m. on a report of a southbound driver who did not stop to pay the toll on I-75, the Mackinaw City Police Department said in a release.

According to the Mackinac Bridge Authority's website, the bridge's tolls are typically $4 per car — $2 per axle — for passenger vehicles.

Shortly after getting the call, an officer saw a vehicle that matched the description. It was speeding, police say, and took the exit for eastbound US-23.
