DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — A home health care worker made her first appearance in Durham County Court Thursday after being accused of stealing checks from an elderly client.
Posting $50,000 secured bond after her arrest earlier this week, 33-year-old Victoria Lowery is facing several charges, including exploitation of an elder/disabled adult.
The Durham County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation started in mid-July when the daughter of an 89-year-old Durham woman reported her mother's checkbook was missing several checks. The investigation also revealed several bottles of the victim’s prescription medication were missing from her home.
According to a warrant, Lowery is accused of stealing $1,700 from the victim's checking account and trying to take more.
