CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - When heavy rain came through Cabell County early Thursday morning, neighbors woke up to part of Guyan River Road completely washed away.

When I first got down here I wasn’t really paying attention. I was looking for water, not a big gaping hole,” Debbie Chabot said.

Emergency crews closed off traffic in both directions to begin repairing the road.

Chabot has lived in the area for a few years and said this was a first.

“It was a complete shock because we never expected that just to wash out,” she said. “The flooding is usual but that washing out, no. We have other neighbors who say they never seen it wash out before.”

Crews opened the road back up after working all day to scoop out asphalt, replace the culvert and make sure drivers avoid the area.
