VILLAGE OF OAK CREEK, AZ (AZFamily) — The tide is turning in firefighters’ favor against the Woods Fire that is burning southeast of Sedona.
Coconino National Forest officials said on Friday that the wildfire is 50% contained and will transition to a less intense firefighting mission on Saturday.
Lightning caused the Woods Fire, which has burned 59 acres about 2 miles east of the Village of Oak Creek, atop Horse Mesa.
Fire crews have made gains in suppressing and securing a perimeter around the wildfire, with high humidity helping them too, officials said.
Firefighters said they plan to continue to secure the perimeter around the fire, keep an eye on any hotspots and put them out, and prepare for possible monsoon storms. Only about 35 firefighters are assigned to the Woods Fire.
