MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Memphis Police Department has three men detained along East Holmes Road just south of the airport after a citywide police chase Friday night, which reportedly began at a remembrance event for a slain rapper.

MPD reports that officers attempted to pull a “suspicious vehicle” over on Austin Peay Highway in Raleigh at 7:27 p.m. as it was leaving the balloon release for local rapper “FastCash CMoney” at the Raleigh Springs Skate Park.

MPD says the event was peaceful and that officers were just there to ensure the community’s safety.

A spokesperson says that the reason officers deemed the car suspicious is under investigation.

Police say the driver refused to stop and tried to hit several officers with his vehicle in the escape.
