OXFORD, Conn. — It’s been one year since the devastating Naugatuck Valley flooding that claimed the lives of three people and left several bridges and roads destroyed.

On Monday, the town of Oxford dedicated two benches and a plaque in honor of two of the women who died.

A day of mourning turned into a day of triumph and reflection for the town. The loved ones of two of the flood victims hugged each other during the memorial ceremony to honor Ethelyn Joiner and Audrey Rostkowski.

Both women were swept away by floodwaters in Oxford last year. Now two benches and a plaque overlook Kirk Pond in their honor.
