Erin will pass about 200 miles off the NC coast Thursday morning bringing coastal wind gusts over 40 mph at times. Peak inland winds will stay below 30 mph. Skies will run mostly cloudy, but rain chances will stay at 20% or less for most areas.
Large waves and beach erosion continue through the day into Thursday night through Thursday evening. Highway 12 will be impossible at times, as overwash is likely to occur. Coastal areas along the coastline and southern Pamlico Sound could see water level rises of 2-4 feet at times.
After Erin passes Thursday night, the weather will quiet down just in time for the Watermelon Festival, with skies running mostly sunny Friday and Saturday with drier air and highs in the low to mid 80s. A few coastal showers may sneak in on Sunday.
