NORTH BEND, Ore. - Firefighters are closely monitoring the Doerner Fir tree after extinguishing remaining hotspots. No smoke has been reported, but with rising temperatures expected this weekend, vigilance continues.
According to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA), their partnership was crucial in managing the incident. A BLM drone with infrared capabilities detected heat in the tree, while CFPA used hand tools and aircraft for suppression.
Certified arborists Damien Carré, Luke Culvin, and master arborist Logan Collier climbed 280 feet to the burned area. They removed coals, applied water, and installed a sprinkler for potential future needs.
