Visitors downtown will soon have more time to shop and eat when they venture to Main Street.

The amount of time patrons can park along Main Street from the Memorial Drive intersection to just past Ridge Street will be increased from one hour to two hours by next week, Danville City Manager Ken Larking said.

The change comes after downtown business owners petitioned the city and requested the extension before Danville City Council on Aug. 5. The petition had more than 800 signatures.

“The change is being made because of the recommendations from Pivot Parking,” Larking told the Register & Bee on Wednesday.

Pivot Parking is the contractor that enforces parking limits downtown, monitors parking behavior and collects data on parking for the city.
