At a program like Camas, it is easy for underclassmen to get buried in the depth chart and lose their way.
But the ones who remain focused on the goal become special.
And that’s what coach Adam Mathieson believes he has in offensive lineman Matthew Kirchoff.
Kirchoff began last season on junior varsity but ended a key contributor on a team that played for a state championship.
This season, Kirchoff will be a team captain for the Papermakers and an anchor on the offensive line.
“He was one of those kids that when he came to Camas, I mean there wasn’t much there,” Mathieson said. “He was 6-foot-4, but maybe a little bit unorthodox. Like he was a his-feet-are-too-big-for-his body type of kid.
“But, man, he has just worked his tail off in the weight room and on the football field. We wer
