On a hot summer night, in the air-conditioned Second Street Dance Studio in Schererville, patrons from mid-60s to mid-90s learned salsa dancing with instructors Jonathan and Katie Hazelton.

They choose partners at random as the instructors demonstrate the moves. Everyone follows the Hazeltons’ lead and begin stepping to the music, practicing short sequences, sometimes changing partners.

The Hazeltons encourage them to master each combination before putting it all together.
