HAWAII KAI, Hawaii (Island News) -- A man was pulled from the waters of Hanauma Bay after nearly drowning on Saturday.

Honolulu Ocean Safety lifeguards responded to reports of an unresponsive man in the ocean at around 2:10 p.m. A 42-year-old man was located 20 yards off shore on the right outer area of Hanauma Bay.

The swimmer was immediately rescued and brought to shore, where CPR was performed on him. Honolulu EMS took over his care and administered advanced life support.

An ambulance transported him to an emergency room in critical condition.
