MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A fight that broke out at a cookout left a 2-year-old child shot Sunday night near Orange Mound, according to the Memphis Police Department.

MPD says one of the victims involved in the shooting told them he and his child went to a BBQ at a residence in the 1100 block of Semmes Street.

He said when he arrived, he saw the woman who invited him to the BBQ having a physical altercation with his sister.

He told police he walked back inside the home with his 2-year-old child and asked what was going on.

That's when he said he was approached by the woman's brother, telling him to get back before pushing him.

The victim told officers that when he was pushed, the male suspect pulled out a gun and started firing shots at him.
