Firefighters are investigating a series of recent vegetation fires in Portland’s Overlook neighborhood, according to an agency spokesperson.

Portland Fire & Rescue investigators “are doing what they can to capture any information and connect any dots possible,” said the spokesperson, Rick Graves.

Responding firefighters have so far made quick work of the blazes before they reached any houses or other structures, he said.

Graves noted that lots of people use the trails near North Overlook Boulevard, including people who live along them, making it difficult to determine the cause of each fire.

“There are improperly discarded smoking materials throughout, occasional mismanagement of open flame and the possibility of a spark from trailer chains hitting a patch of dry fuels,” he said.
