WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Wichita City Council approved the city’s 2026 budget on Tuesday in a 6–1 vote. All six council members supported the budget, while Mayor Lily Wu cast the lone “no” vote against it.

The budget was first presented in July.

Much of what’s included in the budget is a result of the community survey, as well as the city’s budget simulator, an online tool that allows people to create their own budget for the city.

Some services people wanted to see increased include street repair, city parks, and street lighting.

Services people wanted to see decreased include trees in parks and along streets, police services and public information services.

One thing many Wichitans are eying is property taxes. Property values in Wichita are up an average of 8.7 percent for 2026. F
