SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Those who are planning on flying soon might need to prepare for some changes at the security line.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) says it's rolling out new rules when it comes to what passengers can pack in their luggage to take with them.

The TSA says the new rules will impact several items, including cordless hairstyling tools such as dryers, straighteners, and curling irons.

The changes are happening because these devices contain lithium ion batteries, lithium metal, butane or gas fuel, which could potentially be turned on in cargo areas and start a fire.

Hairstyling tools with cords are allowed. The new rule does not apply to carry-on luggage as long as the items have safety covers.
