GAINESVILLE, Mo. -- The Gainesville R-V School District alerted parents about an incident that occurred on school property on Wednesday morning.

In a Facebook post, the school district said a student was found to be in possession of a firearm on school grounds. Law enforcement was called, parents were notified and the firearm was secured without disruption.

No threats were made toward Gainesville school students or staff, the district said. The student was taken out of school pending further review.

"The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and we will continue to follow all required legal and disciplinary procedures," said the Gainesville R-V School District in the social media post.
